8-year-old child killed after accidentally run over by mother

An 8-year-old girl from Hampton was killed after her mother accidently backed her vehicle over her. The mother, Jennifer Gibson, was pulling a horse trailer with her vehicle.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said Gibson was driving the vehicle with the attached horse trailer when the accident occurred around 7:51 p.m. on Saturday. Troopers are still investigating the scene, and additional details about how the accident occurred are not yet available, Anaya said.

Witnesses reported that Gibson was backing up the vehicle with the attached horse trailer when it hit and ran over the girl.

The child died at the scene, Anaya said.
