In a recent blog our experienced Virginia (VA) accident injury attorneys noted the dangers of intersections.

But the careless and reckless driving that often occurs at intersections was graphically illustrated in a recent crash on the Eastern Shore of Virginia when a driver ran through an intersection on Route 13 and smashed into a truck’s gas tank causing a massive fire.

To make matters worse the 21-year-old driver fled the scene of this accident on route 13, making this a hit and run accident, delmarvanow.com reported.

The driver has entered a guilty plea to felony hit and run, reckless driving, failure to yield right of way and driving without insurance.

Fortunately, in this incident that could easily have led to a loss of life, there were no injuries.

This is seldom the case when hit-and-run accidents occur. Take the incident in May, 2011 in Norfolk, VA, when a woman walking on a crosswalk was seriously hurt by a hit-and-run driver at the intersection of Ingleside and Princess Anne roads, according to the Virginian-Pilot.

Another 21-year-old driver was hit with charges of felony hit and run and driving on a suspended license.

See this video of a another fiery truck wreck.

Recently we reported on how a police officer from Virginia Beach, VA was charged with DUI and misdemeanor hit-and-run.

Leaving a scene of an accident compounds the grief felt by victims and will leave the at fault driver facing the full force of the criminal law. It could also be a major factor in a subsequent personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit.
