Gloucester woman killed Saturday night crossing Rte. 17

A woman was killed Saturday night when she was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Route 17.

Jean Calimer, 52, was crossing the northbound lanes of Route 17 between the e when she was struck, said Trooper Austin Pittman of the Virginia State Police.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Calimer was 19-year-old Samantha Jones. Jones was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Jones struck Calimer around 10pm. According to reports Jones said Calimer “came out of nowhere.

Calimer was pronounced dead shortly after being struck.

Toxicology reports are pending on Calimer to determine if alcohol was a factor in the incident, Pittman said.

The accident remains under investigation.
