It’s bad enough when a loved one loses his or her life on the roads. It’s even worse when the victim is an innocent pedestrian who is hit by a driver who doesn’t even stop.

The family of 49-year-old Raymond Rogers of Rhode Island have spoken out about his death on Jan 2 in Virginia Beach, VA., WAVY TV reported.
As our experienced Norfolk-based car accident injury attorneys noted the victim died on Northampton Boulevard in Virginia Beach after he was hit by a suspect who was being pursued by the police.

Police were following a car thought to be involved in a robbery near South Military Highway in Norfolk, VA and saw a man get into the car. Officers tried to pull the driver over, but he would not stop, so police launched a pursuit.

See this video about the incident.

Rogers was struck at the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Baker Road. He was crossing the highway, trying to get back to his truck.
The victim’s mother Velma Rogers told WAVY:  “To just let my son die like a dog, you know, I can’t get to grips with that. To me that’s the most horrible thing that could have happened to anybody.”

Our thoughts are with the family of the victim. While the driver of the burgundy car faces criminal charges he could also be the subject of a wrongful death lawsuit, given the circumstances of this case.

Sadly we report on too many cases in Virginia Beach where drivers are wrongfully killed on the roads. A case in point is the driver of a minivan who died in 2010 when the driver of a tractor trailer ran a red light, also at an intersection on Northampton Boulevard.
