Norfolk, Virginia Injury Lawyer Reports: GM Recalls more than 4,000 Chevy Sonics over Missing Brake Parts

General Motors has announced the recall of thousands of cars over a brake defect that could lead to crashes, injuries and the loss of life.

GM is recalling 4,296 Chevrolet Sonic subcompact models to check for missing brake pads, msn.com reported.

Missing brake parts could “lengthen the stopping distance, potentially contributing to a crash,” msn.com reported.

The Sonic is the new replacement to the Chevrolet Aveo, one of GM’s smallest cars.

GM said the missing brake pads fell off before the cars were assembled and remained unnoticed at the bottom of containers being shipped to a factory in Orion Township, Michigan, GM spokesman Alan Adler, said.

The massive recalls made by Toyota in 2010 over a problem that appears to have led to cars suddenly accelerating is a case in point. The recalls followed a number of deaths that were apparently linked to the problem.

In 2009 a flaw in the design of a gas pedal in the car may have been linked to the death of a family of four in a Lexus.
