Smithfield man dies in Chesapeake car accident

Smithfield man died Tuesday morning in a single car crash in Chesapeake.  Police have identified the man.

George West, 52, of Smithfield, died at the scene in Chesapeake around 8 a.m. after he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a tree.

Dorienne Boykin, spokeswoman for Chesapeake police, said investigators determined that West was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
