Court Appearance for Driver charged with DUI after fatal crash on Granby Street, Norfolk, VA

Date: August 6, 2009
Location: Norfolk, VA
Type: Court Appearances – Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident on July 28, 2009

Richard B. Freeman, 24, was released on a $10,000 bond as long as he remains on the Navy base. Freeman was arrested on DUI charges from a fatal single car accident that killed two passengers: Cameron Richardson of Chesapeake and Lauren Kok of Staten Island, NY.

Freeman’s blood-alcohol level was 0.13, above the legal limit for driving, Westbrook said. Freeman told police he had six mixed drinks that night.

Other Passengers:
• Ryan Petrosky, who was sitting behind Freeman that night, walked away from the wreck.
• Tom Jaskel, who was in the back seat, remains in critical condition and might never fully recover from his injuries, she said.

The judge ordered that Freeman remain on base after posting bond, that he not drink or drive, that he not leave the state, and that he be monitored by pre trial services while free.
