Early Sunday morning crash takes two lives, injuries two others

Two people were killed and two are hospitalized with minor injuries after a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

Around 4:15 a.m., a car carrying four adults crashed into a tree and overturned near the intersection of Helmick and Eilers streets, near Norfolk Naval Station, Norfolk police spokesman Chris Amos said.
All four were adults, Amos said.

A preliminary investigation indicated the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned and struck a tree. Both speed and alcohol were factors in the accident.

Medics and police arrived and pronounced two adult passengers dead at the scene. Two other adults were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Amos said. They are expected to recover, he said.

Police are withholding the victims’ identities pending notification of family members.
