Teresa R. Gallop, a 41-year-old woman of Norfolk, whom also is known as Teresa R. Vick, was sentenced to seven years in prison yesterday. She was convicted of fraudulently claiming thousands of dollars in insurance money after staging car accidents.
U.S. District Judge Henry C. Morgan Jr. sentenced her to seven years in prison and ordered her to pay restitution in the amount of $49,111 to the auto insurance companies that sustained losses.
Prosecutors asked for a harsher sentence because sentencing guidelines called for a shorter prison term, but due to Gallop’s criminal history. Her criminal history included 60 prior felony convictions along with a guilty plea to manslaughter in the shooting death of the father of her two children. Prosecutors also mentioned that she was accused of using minor children car accidents stunts.
