Airplane models are now faster and safer.  There are less deaths, airplane accidents and malfunctions than ever before.

Studies show that with the recent improvements to the airplanes and the industry, you are more likely to die en route to the airport than in the actual plane. The Daily Press states that there are more than 30,000 car accidents a year. Flight Safety Foundation explains that,” 2011 had the second fewest number of fatalities around the world.”

There are a few explanations for the increase of safety in air-travel. First is that, the industry has learned  from its mistakes. There are new engine models that last longer flights and are more fuel-efficient.  Also, there is an increase in information sharing.  Departments, manufacturers and the government track accidents and other problems that occur with planes. As they track, they learn about what went wrong, and how to prevent it from happening again.  Finally, the  labor force for airplanes are more experienced.  The maintenance crew, pilots and air traffic controllers have been doing their job for years.  They learn from their mistakes and teach the new staff.

Pilot overwork and fatigue has been the only bad news in US aviation recently. The disaster over Buffalo , NY showed that training of crew and sleepiness still poses a danger in the skies.
