Tips to avoid teen motor vehicle accidents

Car crashes remind to the leading cause of deaths for teenagers.  Lack of driving experience and a young, developing brain are the causes of these accidents.

Here are some tips to remember when your teen starts to drive:

  • Set limits on car trips by asking where their teen driver is going and when they will be home.
  • Education teens on the dangers of drinking and driving.
  • Limit night driving.  Many accidents happen at night.
  • Limit who is in the car.  The risks of an accident increase when more passengers are in the car.  Limit the number of people allowed in the car at one time.
  • Make sure everyone buckles up!
  • Enforce the rules of the road.   Create a contract with the teen and have them sign it as a way of taking responsibility.
