Location: Chesapeake, Virginia

Type:  DUI –Motor Vehicle

Tuesday, July 14th around 11:15 p.m, Danny Jo Hedrick, 43, of Virginia Beach was driving a Ford Explorer when Chesapeake police officers tried to pull him over.  Police believed Hedrick may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Hedrick was observed driving with a defective tail light.  The office then saw Hedrick run over a concrete barrier, disregard a red light and accelerate in speed.

Police say Hedrick stopped at an intersection to let a passenger out of the vehicle.  This was the point where the pursuit began.  Hedrick led officers on a chase through four cities in Hampton Roads, Police said.  The passenger stated he did not know Hedrick; he asked him for a ride to another location.   While driving Hedrick refused to let the passenger out and held a pointed handgun at him.

The pursuit ended in a crash in Newport News.

Hedrick is now being held in the Newport News City Jail. Hedrick faces several charges to include:

  • One count of Abduction
  • One count of Use of a Firearm
  • One count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • One count of Felony Eluding
  • One count of Driving Under the Influence
  • And several traffic offenses
