Virginia Beach, VA Defective Product Attorney Report – Watchdog asks DePuy Hip Transplant Victims to Come Forward

The consumer advocacy group the US Drug Watchdog has appealed for as many victims of defective DePuy hip replacments as possible  to come forward.

“we need to get every victim identified as soon as possible, in order to try to get them some actual help, that could include significant compensation,” the group said in a new statement.

In a statement on the SF Gate website the group said: “We have learned the makers of the recalled ASR DePuy hip implant have been writing recipients of this hip implant, and offering to pay their co-pays for the replacement of this hip implant-what an insult.”

“In reality, recipients of the recalled ASR DePuy hip implant might be owed hundreds of thousands of dollars, or more, and we find this manufacturers letter campaign to be nothing short of reprehensible,” said the US Drug Watchdog.

Since 2010 the defective nature of hip replacement implants made by the DePuy Orthopaedics unit of Johnson & Johnson, has been clear. That’s when the company announced a recall but patients had been experiencing problemsat least two years earlier.

As we noted in a recent article these hip replacement products were supposed to last at least 15 years. They have been failing in just a few years, leaving patients in pain and discomfort.
There are many health implications due to an apparent flaw in the design of these devices. Most worryingly  they cause excessive friction between the metal parts, releasing chromium and cobalt ions into the patients’ blood stream.
The result is higher infection rates, not to mention as the growth of “pseudo tumors” not to mention the rejection of the hip implant itself.

Patients who have received one of these implants and have suffered symptoms such as pain, problems walking, swelling or general discomfort, may have the basis for a lawsuit.
